The course
Augusta National was built on the 365-acre site of Fruitland, a former plant nursery, and each hole is named for a tree or shrub, such as Tea Olive at the 1st and Golden Bell at the 12th. Alister MacKenzie designed the course, and it opened in January 1933. Rae's Creek cuts across the southeastern corner, behind the 11th green and in front of the 12th. The second shot at the 11th, all of the 12th and the start of the 13th are known as Amen Corner.
