The circuit
Circuit Gilles Villeneuve runs clockwise on Notre Dame Island, a man-made island in the St. Lawrence River that was built up for Expo 67 and is now part of Parc Jean-Drapeau. Nearly half the lap runs beside the Olympic Basin, the rowing and canoeing course from the 1976 Summer Olympics. The fast lap has tight chicanes, a hard stop for the hairpin at Turn 10 and the Wall of Champions on the exit of the final chicane. Outside race weekends, cyclists, runners and inline skaters share the track.
