The circuit
Silverstone is a permanent circuit on the site of RAF Silverstone, a World War II bomber station on the border of Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire. Its three wartime runways still lie inside the track. The clockwise lap runs through Abbey, Farm and Village to the Loop and Aintree, down the Wellington Straight to Brooklands, Luffield and Woodcote, then through Copse, Maggotts, Becketts and Chapel. The Hangar Straight leads to Stowe, Vale and Club. In 1950 it held the first World Championship Grand Prix.
