The course
The Championship Links runs along the shore of Dundrum Bay at Newcastle, below the Mourne Mountains. The club was founded in 1889, and Old Tom Morris was asked to advise on the course for no more than £4. George Combe later set it out in two loops of nine, and Harry Colt, invited in 1926, redesigned the front nine. Its bunkers have overhanging lips of marram, fescue and heather. At the 9th, the fairway lies about 60 feet below the tee.
