The course
Royal Dornoch stretches along the north shore of the Dornoch Firth in the Scottish Highlands. Golf was played on these links as early as 1616, and the club was founded in 1877 with nine holes. Old Tom Morris laid out 18 holes in 1886. Donald Ross, who later designed Pinehurst No. 2, grew up in Dornoch and was the club's first professional before he moved to America. The 9th runs beside the beach. The 14th, Foxy, is the only hole without a bunker and plays to a plateau green.
