The course
The Ailsa follows the Firth of Clyde in South Ayrshire, facing Ailsa Craig and the Isle of Arran. The land was an airfield in both world wars. After World War II, Philip Mackenzie Ross rebuilt the course and removed the runways, and it reopened in 1951. Holes 4 to 11 run along the coast. Since Martin Ebert's 2016 redesign, the par-3 9th plays across a bay to a green beside the lighthouse, built in 1873. The King Robert the Bruce course lies inland beside it.
